Bill Shorten hits out: “The government spent more money on lawyers to stop Liam Danher getting a life-saving seizure mat than the mat cost itself”
The heartbroken family of 23-twelvemonth-old Liam Danher has written to the Disability Curate demanding an apology after their son failed to receive equipment through the NDIS that could have saved his life.
Liam had a severe intellectual disability, was autistic and had epilepsy. Following an independent judgement by his neurologist last July, it was recommended that Liam receive a ictus mat up thus that his carers and folk knew when he was having a critical ictus at night.
But tragically, the mat never arrived, and six months later, Liam died.
"Liam died alone in his bedroom from a ictus while we slept close door," his family wrote to Pastor Linda Reynolds.

The Danhers told the First rudiment their coating for the mat was knocked back and they were asked to supplying further documentation to justify the cost of the $2,500 mat.

At a Senate Estimates audition in Canberra this week, Minister Reynolds said she was deeply saddened by Liam's demise.
"I cannot conceive of the grief that they are passing through," she said, as reported by 7News .
Government minister Reynolds said she bequeath write back to the Danher fellowship and answer their questions, and she would be selfsame happy to meet with them.

NDIA CEO St. Martin Hoffman told Senate Estimates Liam's death was a "complicated and terrible situation". An internal NDIA review is underway.
A series of NDIS scandals
Liam's Death is the latest is a series of tragic events coupled to the NDIS, including the Death of Ann Marie Smith from severe neglect last year, and the death of David Harris, who had acute schizophrenia, just was removed from the NDIS last year only to die ii months later in his apartment unequalled.
In the wake of these scandals, the federal government is vulnerable for attempts to rein in the surging costs of the NDIS.
